Im starting water polo any tips or advice?

Some people say i should wear 2 swimsuits….. were they joking?

I agree with the previous poster, one suit should be all you need. I almost always wear just one suit unless I think that the upcoming game is going to especially competitive or physical.

For starters: “Would you be able to play?”
Yes, anybody who is in decent physical condition and is a competent swimmer can play water polo, just like anybody who is in decent physical condition and can run can play soccer. However, if by asking you mean to ask if you will be a dominant force on your team, that is more relative and depends on the state of the team you are trying out for.

Skills required: decent physical condition, being able to swim for a few minutes without having to touch the side/bottom

Skills to work on: treading water/eggbeater, ball handling skills (you can only use one hand unless you are the goalie)

Things you will get out of water polo if you try hard: lots and lots of fun and you will be in great shape. Honestly, competitive water polo is one of the hardest team sports in the world. Constant movement and always needing to beat your opposing players down the pool and for position make for an extremely fast paced and interesting game. That is why quarters are only 8 minutes long (men’s college and international levels…women’s and highschool have shorter quarters of 5-7 minutes).

Whether you have to try out for the team or not is up to the coach of that particular team, but I hope you do try it and see what an amazing sport water polo is!
