What to expect in playing water polo?
I’m starting high school next week and I wanted to try a different water sport rather than swimming. I want to join the water polo team. I’ve never played and I’m a bit nervous. I’m not sure what to expect when i go to the try outs on monday and I don’t really understand some of the rules.
I went on youtube to look for some more info and it gets pretty crazy. One of my friends girlfriends plays and said she broke a rib playing. I thought she was joking but she was serious.
Are you allowed to go under the water when your not holding the ball?
And what is the layout of your team? I know theirs a flat, wing and goalie but i don’t know where they should be and what they should do.
FYI, I’m a girl. I hear girls pinch the opponents boobs to get the ball. Anything else i should look forward to?

Dont worry i felt the same way when i first started polo, but its sooo much fun and you get in the best shape. Dont get me wrong it is an intense sport and yes girls do pinch you but you cant be afraid like i was when i first started because intimidation is visiable and makes you an easy target. If a girl pinches you pinch back, im not saying to play dirty but you have to do what you need to, to survive all in all dont be afraid to be agressive. Yes you can go under the water but its not a good idea since you wont know whats going on above the water, keep your head up at all times. Dont worry too much about the layout it will be taught to you at practice, just know a goalie is always the goalie, and in a game every other player can rotate into any given position. Good luck dont be scared, you will do great and dont forget to ask for help when its needed thats what your coach and teammates are there for. Be aggresive.
